Hello and welcome to our EUMIND page!
OUR INTRODUCTION
THE SYNOPSIS
Over the years, through centuries of colonisation, trade developments, methods of communication, access to the world and lifestyle influences, cultural intermingling is an inevitable consequence- one that opens up new opportunities and gateways for liberal thinking.
One of the greatest give-aways about culture and heritage is the architecture of a place. Each monument withstanding centuries of war, terror, suppression, resurgence, independence, joy and celebration- as a mark of solid national unity, while each building tells tales of it’s own, of how it’s people lived and thrived.
From the days of the Dutch East India company setting up it’s quarters in India, to the time of the EUMIND, there’s so much change that has occurred in both countries.
We here at EUMIND, try to go a little into depth of the architectural details of the Dutch, as well as the Indian aspects. We talk not only about facts, but lifestyle changes and learning form a different form of culture, in a talk-show manner. Our movie includes photographs from various landscapes across time and region, most of which are courtesy of our own group members.
Hoping you would enjoy our work!

Draw my life sequence plays
Host 1: hello and welcome to a new episode of ‘construction conversation’ with me, (insert name).
Host 2: and me, (insert name). In todays episode, we have two very special guests joining us. Our first guest is a specialist in dutch architechture (zoom in on face and applaud)
Host 1: our second guest is a cultural expert (zoom in on face and applaud) so mr guest 1, what can you tell us about dutch architechture?
Guest 1: the dutch architecture industry is one of the most innovative in the world and is influenced by the lack of space, the regard for sustainability, the increasing influence of users and the problems associated with water. The dutch architectural tradition is known for more than just its building design but for its total approach to urban planning and complex restructuring. Dutch house-building is highly rated for its flexibility and creativity.
Host 2: that’s certainly informative! Lets move on to our cultural expert. Sir, could you tell us something about the influence of the dutch in the field of architechture?
Sabeer: dutch architecture has played an important role in the international discourse on architecture in three eras. The first of these was during the 17th century, when the dutch empire was at the height of its power. The second was in the first half of the 20th century, during development of modernism. The third is not concluded and involves many contemporary dutch architects who are achieving global prestige.
Host 1: coming to dutch influence on international architechture, what can you tell us about its impact on india?
Sabeer: one of the most enduring achievements of indian civilization is undoubtedly its architecture. Indian architecture, which has evolved through centuries, is the result of socio-economic and geographical conditions. The dutch east india company, largely influenced indian architecture. In many coastal areas in india, from surat to calcutta, signs of dutch influence remain. Reminders of this dutch era are still everywhere – forts, mansions, warehouses and factories were built by the dutch using dutch architecture and dutch materials. Many of these buildings still remain. In some places, even pavements laid by the dutch are more or less intact.

Host 2: so mr guest 1 what can you tell us about the typical features that are common to dutch and indan architecture?
Guest 1: as you can see, dutch architecture includes a lot of typical features such as earthen floor tiles, earthen bricks, two panelled dutch style windows and steep staircases that are all incorporated in many indian buildings from the colonial era. Porches, columns, and 2 storey buildings are also common. Other features include arches and large glass panels. Traditional dutch architecture makes extensive use of stained glass.
Guest 2: dutch presence on the indian subcontinent lasted from 1605 to 1825. Merchants of the dutch east india company first established themselves in dutch coromandel, notably pulicat, as they were looking for textiles to exchange with the spices they traded in the east indies. Their architectural influence can be seen in the form of old houses and libraries along the western coast of india, and specifically in the neighbourhood of bandra, mumbai.
Guest : india underwent a major architectural metamorphosis with the europian colonization, with its impacts lasting for almost a century. The victoria terminus in mumbai is unesco world heritage site, and one of the most important marvels of british brilliance.
Host : recently we have seen a huge change in the lifestyles of indians especially, with them borrowing a leaf from the books of the dutch, and adopting to a healthier lifestyle. Wider pavements are used for cycling rather than driving.
